Impact on Teaching Practice

Think about which technologies, in your experience, really impact classroom instruction and student learning. If you could give every teacher one technology for the classroom, what would it be and why?

  2. I couldn't exist without a projector. In fact, I had to spend a few days without it just before Christmas, and I totally couldn't teach. I hate using the whiteboard, and am allergic to chalk, and I really don't like turning my back on my students. Having a projector makes teaching so much easier.

  3. To start, for every classroom, I would provide an LCD projector. I'm assuming that teachers have computer, so now being able to project the world that can be accessed from the web and a computer is amazing.

  4. It's really hard to choose JUST ONE; however, I'd have to say Inspiration (or some kind of visual thinking/mapping resource tool). This assumes that there is at least 1 presentation system in the classroom. Note: Inspiration can be accessed via a web-based phone!

  5. Since all our teachers just got laptops, projectors and document cameras I really want them to use them. I think they would like to use curriculum companion to help instruct Houghton Mifflin vocabulary - something that is done for them, easy to open and from that they can start feeling able to start creating their own presentations.

  6. A good understanding of how to access material to teach to different modalities...there are so many possibilities. Just giving teachers the tools...and training.

  7. While I like a lot of the software and web info we have gotten info on, and a laptop/projector are musts, interactive whiteboards are a dream, the next piece of equipment that seems like a possibility would be the document cameras...aka "ELMO"? The option of taking primary sources and/or other realia to use without having to rely on transparencies, etc. could really impact a lesson in a positive way.

  8. In my experience most recently, we have added projectors to our classrooms. This has helped me to show a quick picture or a short clip of a video to enhance the curriculum I'm teaching.

  10. I would give every teacher a smart board (interactive whiteboard) so their lessons would be interactive for the students. Technology can be used to help students really process and THINK.
